February 3rd 2010 Asma Kazmi

Asma Kazmi received a B.F.A. from the Massachusetts College of Art and an M.F.A. from the School of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She approaches her practice from a post installation/object centric position, which allows her to create multidimensional works where people, media and objects come together. Asma Kazmi is the recent recipient of At the Edge: Innovative Art in Chicago Award, given by the University of Illinois in Chicago and the Critical Mass Grant, awarded by The Regional Arts Commission, St. Louis, MO. Her work has been exhibited and included in collections such as the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis; Webster University; Boots Contemporary Art Space, St Louis; The Guild Gallery, NYC; Galerie Sans Titre, Brussels, Belgium; Gallery 400, University of Illinois in Chicago; Boston Underground Film Festival; Balagan Film and Video Series, Boston; Women In Film & Video/New England; and the MassArt Film Society. Asma Kazmi was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan.

Programmed by filmmaker and professor Saul Levine for the past 40 years, MassArt Film Society is one of the longest running microcinema's in the US, every week presenting exciting independent, alternative, and experimental cinema from around the world (often with artists in attendance).

Integrated into the departmental curriculum as a film studies class for MassArt Film/Video Majors, screenings are open to all who are interested in attending.

Shows begin @ 8pm and are usually held on Wednesday evenings. Occasionally we will advertise a show at another venue or even hold film society at another location in conjunction with another venue. Please refer to the schedule and posts on the left for details of each screening and pay attention to any exceptions. Upcoming shows on this blog will be first. Entrance is now through the new DMC Building on Huntington Ave.
Enter through the glass doors and ask the guard how to get to the film area-turn left and go into the South Building, turn right into the East building and go down the 1/2 flight of stairs, through the hall, back up the next 1/2 flight, keep straight and Screening Room 1 will be on your left.
